Finishing the film

On the last day of working on the film, we got together with each of our scenes and put them together to get our final result.

Voice recording

For kayleigh's scene, she decided to go with drawing each panel and putting them together into a 'comic' styled animation. She decided draw out her scene instead of film, as it would relate back to her seed of 'hands'. It relates to her project because it is hand drawn, thus giving it a more 'hand crafted' feel.

In her scene she needed a voice actor for the gypsy and a voice actor for the main character. I was the voice of the gypsy and Art was the voice of the main character (as he plays the main character in the film). Kayleigh wrote out a script and got us to say the lines she needed as she recorded them.

Working On my scene

So far I have worked on and hopefully completed my scene for the group project. To edit the scene, I used windows movie maker, and used a photo from earlier that we had taken when scouting for areas to film. Here is my scene so far:

If you notice, I used the bed sheets I had made before in semester 1, as I thought it would be a shame to lose it.

Scouting for areas

For the last scene we needed a tower. Luckily there's a tower up Law Hill in Dundee that we can use. Here are some of the photos we took that day of the camera angles we would use for the final scene.

Filming

Today we filmed my scene and Art's scene. For the actor, we ended up using Art and had help with filming from our friend Emma Rankin who has expericence in using video cameras. For my scene we used my flat bed room, and we used Law Hill for Art's scene.

My scene

In our team we are each responsible for our own scenes. My scene is the first scene (with the man suffering from strange dreams). I decided I wanted to have it slightly abstract, in which it would consist of a man going to bed, but the screne cutting sharply to show the man's strange dreams. Here is a story board I have sketched so far of what I want my scene to be:

Between each slide, it would have the camera screne cutting out to the next slide. The scene would then end wiht it fading out to Rob's scene.

Team decided

We decided on having a running plot through out our short film, and each of use is responsible for a scene. There would be 5 scenes in total.

The plot of the film, is to have a man who suffers from strange dreams and visions (my seed 'dreams' and rob's seed 'industry' is represented here), eventually goes to seek the advice of a fortune teller (kayleigh's seed 'hands' is used here) who tells him he must find this spell book and go to a tower to perform a ritual to rid himself of these visions. (Steven and Art's seeds are represented here) The film ends with the man ruining the ritual at the last minute, and destroys him.

Team Project Idea

The final project idea that we have decided in our group is to make a short film, representing eahc of our seed ideas. So far, we are undecided on having it abstract, or to have a plot running through out the film.

Idea Sketches

Here are some sketches of current ideas that I am thinking of using in this team project:

This is a sketch of having different beds to represent each persons individual dreams. In this sketch, It shows my friend Ceren, who's bed is designed around the WWE wrestling, due to her dreams lately being mostly about wrestling.

This sketch is an idea of how we could combine my project 'dreams' and kayleigh's project 'hands' together. This sketch shows hands sewing different peoples dreams that they want ot accomplish. The sewing of the hands is used to represent how it is ourselves who get accomplish our dreams.

This is another idea of making a dream catcher with the image of a hand with palm lines on it. The palm lines are to represent the journey through life one goes through.

Group Teams

In this semester, we need to get together in teams and come up with a group project that represents each of our project ideas. So far I have teamed up with Kayleigh Mcleod, who's seed is 'hands'.

Possible ways these two connect:

• Palm reading tells the future, dreams can sometimes reveal furture events.
• Hands (lines show the journey in people's life) Dreams (dreams to accomplish in life)are the goals we set ourselves to achieve and its the journey and things we do that determine if we achieve these dreams.

Semester 2 Sketches

Now that the second semester has started, I now have to think of how to develope my 'dreams' idea even further. Here are some sketches I have drawn to brain storm some ideas.

This is a cartoon sketch I drew of a recent dream I had about being chased by a gorilla.

In this sketch, I was designing an icon for my project, and came up with this image.

Final Project 'Dream Bed'

Heres the video of all the photos i've taken of the 'Dream bed'.

My project was based on the concept of 'Dreams' what interested me most about dreams, was how strange they were, as I rembered having many dreams that had the craziest story lines, and most of the time, they didn't make much sense. So for the final project, I chose to collect and write out peoples dreams on bed sheets. I wanted to learn about about other people's dreams, and to hear their interesting stories. I chose to write them out on bed sheets because it related to the 'field' in which my project idea came from, and to also make it interactive in some way. eg You can sleep in it

Photos

I've finished writing all the dreams down on the bed sheets.

With the help of my buddy and fellow computer art student Ceren Gunes, she helped me take photos today of the 'Dream Bed'. She also posed in a few of these picture too, and let me borrow her digital camera when mine stopped working. Here are a few photos.

There are quite alot of photos, im thinking of putting all the photos together in a video with photos of close ups of each dream written on the duvet covers.

Dream Collecting

So i've been going around the place, and asked quite a few of my friends and family about a dream they remeber. I've found some really interesting ones, involving getting eaten by crocodiles, and meeting celebraties such as Johnny Depp. I've bought the plain white bed sheets and some colourful pens so im about ready to start writing them down. In the mean time here is a sketch idea of the 'Dream Bed'.

ANOTHER new Idea and this time the FINAL project Idea

Again, I've had ANOTHER idea for the final project and this time it's my final idea.
The reason I came up with another idea was because again, I wasn't really happy with the whole comic idea.

My new idea is a project im calling 'Dream Bed' In this project, I'll be asking around and writing down random dreams people have dreamt. I then write down the dreams on Bed sheets and take photos.

Dream comic work in process

Heres the first page of the comic. It starts with a man bored with his life and living his dull life, so I pretty much went with my second idea for the story. The first page isn't finished yet but its just to give you an idea.

New Idea!

Okay, so the dream animation idea is not going so well, mainly because, I feel I don't have the time or the skill to create anything that I would be happy with.

Good news is i've thought up a new idea. Instead of, creating an animation, I would draw a comic strip instead, showing the confusion of dreams and how dreams reflect reality. Not sure on the story yet, I have a few ideas though:

1, Man has trouble sleeping and so has to go into theropy in which they study his dreams.

2, Man has boring dull life, but when asleep, his dream world is alot more fun, colourful and crazier.

Gonna have to work on the idea.

Dynamic Communication work

After looking at some Salvador Dali paintings, as reasearch for ideas on my seed, i came up with these two images (rough unfinished sketches) on the idea of dreams. The girl with the cut out face reveals the random thought going through the girls head. The other one conveys how the dream world and the real world are parellel worlds.

After drawing some ideas for my seed I needed to think of where my area of investigation was. I decided it was my bed (my seed being dreams). In this picture i drew I show how dreams are made up of random thought, fear, memorys hopes and dreams and other elements.
